Peace and Justice Awarded Given to Organizations Promoting Reconciliation

In its third year of existence, the Milwaukee Ulster Project Peace and Justice Award took a different route in 2008 to recognize three organizations known for their contributions to peace, justice and reconciliation around the world.  Project teens selected the organizations and presented their proposals to the board.  See who won by clicking here!

Gerry Harmon and Ellen Croke named 2008 Volunteers of the Year

Host parents to two teens, parents of a counselor, working at Family Fun Night and, last, but certainly not least, chairing the Worship Committee, Gerry and Ellen have been a part of Ulster Project Milwaukee for the last ten years.  For more about how they have helped bring success to Milwaukee, please click here!

Ulster Project Peace and Justice Award

The Ulster Project Peace and Justice Award is given annually to an alumnus of Milwaukee Ulster Project who has demonstrated their commitment to peace and justice in their communities.  This person educates and encourages his or her communities to appreciate their roles as peacemakers and mediators, both locally and globally.  This person is a leader in his or her own community of efforts to promote reconciliation or correct injustices.  Finally, this person epitomizes the belief that individuals acting together can change the hearts and minds of those hurt by injustice, in order to bring about real peace in our world.

It was first awarded in 2006 (Kathleen Cullen and Kate McCormack win 2006 Peace and Justice Award) and the tradition continued in 2007 (Peter Toepfer wins Peace and Justice Award).  According to the above description, we are looking for local and/or global leaders to combat injustice in any way they see fit.  The modest award is given in the hopes to continually identify the great strides Milwaukee Ulster Project teens make in the many paths they take following their Ulster Project experience.
